Bruce R. Saran, M.D., an Attending Surgeon at The Chester County Hospital and Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, specializes in the medical and surgical management of retinal and vitreous diseases.

Dr. Saran provides state-of-the-art management for all vitreoretinal diseases and emergencies including macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, diabetic retinopathy, severe ocular infections and trauma, and macular pucker and hole surgery. He utilizes highly sophisticated equipment at Chester County Eye Care to perform and interpret digital fundus imaging, fluorescein and ICG angiography, ocular ultrasound, and Ocular Coherence Tomography.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the University of Rochester, NY, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1988.

Dr. Saran completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois at Chicago Eye and Ear Center where he was elected best senior resident. He was awarded a fellowship in the medical and surgical management of retina and vitreous diseases at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, where he now teaches residents as a Clinical Assistant Professor. Dr. Saran has numerous publications and has lectured internationally on retinal surgery and disease. He is the founder and regularly attends the meetings of the Chester County Macular Degeneration Support Group. His surgery has been nationally featured on the medical television program Second Opinion on the Discovery Channel.
